The FLAK 41 50mm (5cm) anti-aircraft gun was designed as a key air defense to make up for the lack of 37mm anti-aircraft guns. At that time, 75mm and above anti-aircraft guns were relatively heavy and could not be maneuvered at any time. The development of the gun began slowly in 1936, and in 1940 the contract was awarded to Rheinmetall-Borsig for the development of two versions for the defense of important industrial facilities. Neither model was successful in development, and both had the same failure. The speed of the recoil mechanism is too slow, and the response to fast-moving targets and the rate of fire cannot meet the design requirements, and the smoke generated during launch seriously affects the collimator during the day. A total of about 60 FLAK 41 50mm anti-aircraft guns were produced, starting in 1941, and some continued to be used until 1945.
