Description

Built during World War II, after war restrictions put a limit on new diesel locomotives, the EM-1 was the last steam locomotive class used by the B&O. This simple articulated engine provided tremendous power at high speeds, making it an ideal hauler of heavy loads through the mountains of West Virginia. Roy B. White, B&O president at the time, was so impressed after viewing the first EM-1 that he exclaimed, 'Well, I must say, they have everything!'
