First introduced in 1909, most American railroads owned several of these 120-Ton Industrial Brownhoist steam-powered cranes, and often employed two of them at train wrecks and bridge construction sites. Cranes traveled in company with Boom Cars, which protected the booms in transit and carried the necessary equipment to support the various crane operations.
