Never officially sanctioned by the U.S. Army, as many as 400 M54 5-Ton trucks were estimated to have been converted into gun trucks like the "King Cobra," armored vehicles mounted with crew-served weapons and assigned to escort/security detail for supply convoys in both Vietnam and the Iraq War.
