Bachmann HO EMD E7-A Diesel Locomitve, with DCC Sound Value, New York Central, No. 4028
Designed for high-speed passenger service, the first E7-A was was introduced by GM in the late 1940s and became one of the most popular passenger engines ever made. This EMD E7-A locomotive includes Bachmann's 'Sound Value' SoundTraxx® diesel package with prototypical prime mover, 3 air horns, and bell . . . all in polyphonic 16-bit sound. Features include precision motor with dual flywheels, die-cast frame, all-wheel drive, operating mars light (per prototype), illuminated number boards, soft-white LED headlight, RP25 wheel contours, and E-Z Mate® Mark II couplers. The E7-A was a A1A-A1A passenger train locomotive built by GE. The engine had 2,000-horsepower. The A stands for cab versions and 428 E7As were built in the late 1940s. The 2,000 horsepower was delivered by two 12-cylinder model 567A engines.
From the side angle, the front of the nose of an E7A was less slanted than on earlier EMD passenger locomotives. The E7, E8, and E9 units have been nicknamed “bulldog nose” units. Some earlier units were called “shovel nose” units or “slant nose” units.
