This handsome locomotive was a true workhorse "south of the border".

N de M (Ferrocarriles Nacionales de Mexico) was Mexico's state owned railroad company until 1995, after which time it became privatized. The railway linked Mexico City to the major cities of Nuevo Laredo and Juárez and in conjunction with the Missouri Pacific Railroad and later with Amtrak, provided connections to El Paso, San Antonio and St. Louis. The Alco RS-1 introduced in 1941, started a revolution in locomotive design that was soon embraced by all of the major diesel-electric builders. The SILVER ran the N de M like a champ!
