"Big Boy" #4014 was delivered to Union Pacific in December 1941 and logged 1,031,205 miles between Ogden, Utah, and Cheyenne, Wyoming over it's 20 years of service until it was retired in December 1961. Because of its great 132 ft. length, the 4-8-8-4 configured steam engines was constructed on articulated frames which allowed it to negotiate curves. These behemoth weighed in excess of 1.2 million pounds.
