The most effective way to precisely hold rail in place while handlaying trackwork. When used in pairs they will hold rail perfectly parallel on both straight and cuved sections.
For best results, two gauges should be used while fastening the rails in place. Use one gauge ahead of, and the other behind the track section you're working on. For curved track, place the single leg of the track gauge to the inside of the curve. This will increase the gauge slightly on the curves.
