The Hotchkiss H38 was a light tank initially developed for the French Infantry, but ultimately adopted for use by their cavalry arm. The H38 evolved from the H35 tank, with a more powerful engine and improved suspension and track. The tank was upgraded yet again in 1940 with improved artillery, episcopes, tails and a radio. The upgraded version is referred to historically as both H38 and H39, with H39 being the correct designation.
