Description
The P-51D is considered by many experts to be the definitive variant of the Mustang and the best fighter aircraft of WWII. It featured a bubble canopy for superb all-round visibility, a heavier armament of six .50-cal machine guns, and wing racks to allow the carriage of extended range drop tanks or bombs. P-51Ds were instrumental in helping the Allies gain air superiority over Europe.
Highly detailed kit includes multiple parts to enable depiction of early and late-production P-51Ds. The cockpit and engine are each 'kits within a kit' with more than 80 parts just for the engine! Magnets allow easy removal of the engine cowlings to showcase the detailed Packard Merlin V-1650 engine. Photo-etched parts add detail to the seat harnesses and the oil cooler. The six .50 caliber machine guns have ammo trays, rounds, and belts. Landing gear features solid rubber tires and can be positioned retracted or deployed. All control surfaces are positionable.
Includes display stand, 2 pilot figures, and 16 page full-color reference manual.
