When paint is applied directly to different materials, the resulting finish not only varies in texture, but in color, as well. Models are typically constructed from a combination of materials, so it's best to apply a surface primer before painting to obtain a uniform final finish. Acrylicos Vallejo Surface Primer is a water-based acrylic-polyurethane coating that you apply with an airbrush or paint brush to any material . . . plastic, metal, paper, wood, fiberglass, ceramics and more. Its quick-drying black formula includes the finest ground pigments, so it won't obliterate details while providing the smooth, uniform base color that's ready for the application of a finish coat.

This acrylic-polyurethane primer is especially formulated for use in air brushing. The special quality, the polyurethane component, which gives it the strength and the resistance to nicks and scratches, will be diminished by diluting the product, but the product can be diluted with AV Thinner (#87199, sold separately) or even with distilled water. To maintain its special qualities, the less dilution the better!
