Traditonal ice house based on a New York, Ontario & Western Railway design that matches the Creamery #41680 (sold separately) or use as a stand-alone on your layout. Typical of ice houses used throughout the early and mid 20th century before the invention of refrigeration.
Early creameries, that were responsible for processing milk and cream, and producing butter and cheese, were built before mechanical refrigeration. As a result they were almost always built adjacent to an ice house. Ice houses were also used as stand alones along rail lines to provide ice storage for reefers and milk cars. Our ice house is based on a NYO&W design that matches the Creamery #41680, sold separately.
