What is special about the RailPro PBM-2 is that it is an active power backup, not a passive one like many other power backups. Most others are basically just super capacitors that experience exponential voltage drops as soon as the power is removed. With other backups, lights continually dim and module performance is affected. The PBM-2 has an onboard microcontroller and other electronics that will output a fixed voltage similar to a good power supply output so lights remain constant while the PBM is active. Your locomotives perform better!
